Promarine Finance to attend Crick Boat Show 2023

The Promarine Finance team is thrilled to announce its attendance at this year’s Crick Boat Show, taking place from 27-29 May 2023 at Crick Marina, Northampton.

Britain’s largest inland waterways festival is set to return with a bang, featuring a number of exciting exhibitors, seminars and boat handling sessions, and entertainment for everyone.

For three days, the exhibition transforms into Britain’s largest chandlery as over 260 exhibitors bring together the full range of inland boating supplies and equipment.

If you’re visiting the show, come and speak to the Promarine Finance team, where they will be offering advice and finance for inland boats, liveaboards and ocean going boats.

Stuart Austin, Director of Promarine Finance, says: “The team and I are excited for another year exhibiting a Crick Boat Show. It’s a great show to be attending with lots of variety going on, and a good opportunity to meet with new and familiar faces.

“We’re passionate about helping more people get out on the water with our marine finance services and connecting them with the boat of their dreams in the most affordable way.”

Whether a previous boat owner, a current boat owner, or a novice, we’re here to help. Come and say hello!

BoatLife: our key takeaways

Back in February, Promarine Finance had the pleasure of attending BoatLife Live. The inaugural show took place from 17- 20 February at the NEC, Birmingham.

As the first in-person boat show since Southampton International Boat Show (SIBS) 2021, it was a convenient, well-timed event, and run by a friendly and professional team.

Here are our three key takeaways from the show.

1. BoatLife kicked off the season with a small and intimate show

Kicking off the season, BoatLife was a small and intimate show. Companies boasting smaller motorboats, ribs, and a few sailboats were in attendance.

Among the exhibitors were some familiar faces, including Clipper, Bates Wharf, Tingdene, Brig, Grand, Viko, Supra, Boat Exchange, Lakeland Leisure, Gibbs, Aqueduct, Excel Ribs, Boatworld, Rebel Leisure, South West Yachtbrokers, Axopar, Bray, Boatshop, H2O, Horizon, Idealboats, TBS Boats, Northern Powerboats, ABC Leisure, Clearwater, and Waterlodge.

2. The event saw an incredible turnout

In total, 140 companies were involved in the event, and the show exhibited some 120 craft all in all.

This was particularly impressive, given the announcement of severe weather warnings in the lead-up to and during the event. In fact, Storm Eunice caused transportation issues all over the UK.

According to Powerboat & Rib Magazine, by BoatLife day three, several industry-leading boat suppliers had exceeded their 2021 SIBS sales figure.

Several other boat distributors, insurance partners, and British Marine members visited our stand to say hello and try out our boat finance calculator.

3. Although it was in-person, it still catered for those who couldn’t attend

If you were unable to attend due to COVID-19, or were hampered by Storm Eunice, you can find the live-streamed interview with Mark Covell and Stuart Austin on Facebook.

The next BoatLife show will take place from 16-19 February 2023. We look forward to attending!

This year’s Crick Boat Show will take place from 24-28 March

Britain’s biggest inland waterways festival, which will be completely online, will include a mixture of pre-recorded static and live content, including Q&A sessions, live chat and live radio.

With video boat tours, product demonstrations, seminars and 1-2-1 chats with show exhibitors, it’s the perfect place to come along and experience what it’s like to own and run your own boat.

Our team of trusted boat finance experts will be on hand throughout the virtual show to offer advice and provide guidance. With many finance decisions taking less than an hour, the dream of owning your own canal boat could become a reality before the show is over.

We’ve been financing all types of coastal and inland waterway vessels for over 10 years and welcome any questions that you may have.

Our view of Southampton Boat Show 2019

2019 marked the third year for ProMarine Finance Ltd to exhibit at the Southampton Boatshow, being the second time in Mayflower Park between Ocean Hall and the Marina. Having seen Marine Mortgage lending grow in certain sectors through the year, we found this year’s show had a very different feel and not representative of the past 12 months.

Did the heat keep the visitors away? – well we were told by some with tickets the weather was too good to go to the show!!! At least on the marina there appeared to be a cooling breeze most days – whereas our location was sweltering, causing us in the afternoons to end up squeezing into the back of the stand to get out of the sun!!!

Previously our location was chosen so to be close to other Marine Mortgage lenders, however 2019 saw us as the only finance exhibitor with a stand, meaning we received enquiries for larger boats that didn’t fit into our lending profile. We also didn’t have visitors who were looking to get started in boating, nor did we see many looking for a lower value boat, or a vessel of an older age – all being our typical customer.

So where were the typical smaller boat buyers? – Did the emphasis being driven by British Marine and their Futures Project of selling ‘boating experiences’, which is further emphasised by the show’s main sponsor ‘Borrow a Boat’, mean that our target audience chose not to come?

Our business is growing well, mostly due to the internet, so maybe customers in our market can research all they need from the internet….. We believe this is why other Marine Mortgage providers chose not attend and it could certainly influence our decision to be present in the future.

As always we enjoyed ourselves at the show meeting new, past and present clients, along with the regular boat dealers. The BRBA dinner was a great event at the Grand Café, superb food and generous drinks from Coleman Insurance – always makes for an entertaining journey home on a Brompton Bike!

Makes us wonder if the traditional boat show for attracting boat buyers and selling boats has run its course in the UK – London is no more, On the Water was cancelled and Southampton feels as though it is shrinking. There appear to be plenty of big names in the industry voicing support for the show and their sponsorship, but we are not too sure whether to believe it.

Southampton Boat Show 2018 Review and Images

2018 was our second year exhibiting at the Southampton Boat Show and we were in a more prominent location in Mayflower Park and closer to the Marina.

Generally we feel that visitors were thinking about buying boats in the future rather than buying boats now. More visitors were considering keeping their future boats in the Med rather than the UK and those that were enquiring now were looking at buying boats currently in Croatia, Greece and the Eastern Med with the plan to keep them in these locations. Unusually this was true for the lower value and older boats that we usually finance.

We met lots of our customers and it is great to share a beer with them often meeting them for the first time and renewing friendships with those that we already know.

Boat dealers we spoke to did not sell much at the show due to such reasons as the weather, exchange rates and the looming elephant that is Brexit.

No doubt Princess, Sunseeker and other luxury brands will report record sales which is perhaps typical of their wealthy client base who appear to be insulated from the more common troubles that affect most of us mortals.

On a social front the title sponsor, Yachtmarket.com were very generous providing Sundowners each evening. The Exhibitor Party was heaving under any dry spot available, drinks tokens must have been subject to Quantitive Easing because there were lots being handed out.

We had a great evening with the British Marine Boat Retailers and Brokers dinner at Banana Wharf.

And successfully managed to cycle safely home each evening with only 1 drenching.

So all in all a thoroughly enjoyable show which was well organised by Charlie Merchant. Thank you Charlie for doing this and to Olivia, this was her first employment ever as she only finished A levels this summer.
